Animeme: Danjo

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I don't know where the hell this song came from, but it sure is catchy. I think it started as a non-anime music video, until someone added the VOCALOID boys, and it finally started. The VOCALOID version was a big hit with its unique style of animation, and then the continuous flood of parodies from that video exploded like wildfire. The thing is, even if you have grown tired of the Danjo song already, it is still a treat to watch the animated videos. Each one is funny especially if you know the characters. Also, people started to dance this too… with varying degrees of success of course.

Moar:
Danjo Daikazoku – It's rather simple. Dango rhymes with Danjo. So?

SHOW YOUR FACE! This is one of the dreaded real-life dance renderings. Her body is definitely nice… so let's just leave it at that okay? I think it's better to hide your face indeed.

Animeme: Pocky DANCE2

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Pocky + Orange Range + Aragaki Yui = TOTAL DOMINATION. This is a rare but absolutely catchy commercial that only a few people caught and cared to spoof. But still, it's pure WIN for pocky fans. Look especially at the Hatsune Miku version. Super-moe~!

What else can I say? This should be the dance of the century!

I figured that because lately I've been fascinated by the power of doujin works, mostly by watching random videos in idle time, I'd share to you some of them.

Caramelldansen

It all innocently started with the eroge opening in Popotan but then some random otaku genius thought that Swedish dance pop and loli dancing can mix well. The rest is history, with thousands of variations of the iconic dance meme, including not only characters from various anime, manga, games, and doujin, but even real people dancing this rather weird dance. I would agree that the Caramelldansen phenomenon has some sort of charm into it, in which when you see some of your favorite charas you chuckle a bit at its undeniable cuteness. It may get old pretty quickly, but as new ideas revolving around the dance surface on the tubes and the dougas, this one won't die that easily.

2007: Year of the Modern Doujin

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

If I would remember 2007 in anime terms, it is definitely the year when the legend of fan-based content finally entered my consciousness. I know, stuff made by fans (doujinshi, doujin games, etc.) have been around even before the first Comiket, but never has it exploded as much as today. I would mostly blame the internet for that, as with many other things related with such an easy way to connect with other people. Because it's related to computers though, the term "doujin" would have changed for me. A few years ago, I would consider the majority of doujin as either manga drawn by fans for fans, or programmed games by fans for fans. In 2007, "doujin" now encapsulates almost every form of media ever created. Music, accessories, video… you name it… the fans got it.

PV Channel

Ahh, Promotional Videos. Love it, hate it.

This post will be a sort-of review center for PV. Whether it be some purely obscure anime PV that won't even get MTV Japan airplay, or maybe some cool mainstream jpop song, I'll try to watch it and make some comments. Of course, you won't enjoy my blabber if you haven't seen the PV yourself, so I'll conveniently link a video source.

I've been thinking about this kind of feature for a while actually, but back then it wasn't a good idea, seeing that not all people will be able to watch the video themselves. All hail YouTube and all the other video streaming sites, now it's possible!

This post will continually be updated whenever I feel like watching a PV or two, so please do check up on it. You can talk about your nice PV recommendations too!

LEGEND: (of course, this is personal opinion)
Category
Mainstream – Songs you probably will see at the music charts.
Semi-Mainstream – Songs that are not so popular.
Semi-Obscure – Songs that are quite unpopular.
Obscure – Songs that may not ever be popular.

Ranking:
Great – Awesome!
Good – Quite nice.
Average – Worth watching only once.
Horrible – Worth the watch!! (are you serious?)
