The Forgotten

I am looking through my own blog archives now and then, and reading them as well. I have quite a case of amnesia when it comes to old anime series after all. Interestingly enough, I had touched upon a few anime/manga series that I have actually forgotten or dropped. So I went on a little trip down memory lane and see what's up with those old stuff.

Naisho no Tsubomi

image
Originally a shoujo manga aimed at young girls, this is a small anime about a huge topic… or should I say a topic huge to girls who are growing up. Well basically… it's about girls growing up.

I know that a lot of people may not like this anime, and indeed in the surface it just looks like some fanservice anime about young Japanese love/sex/physical education. While the original manga was supposed to be for young girls, I think no modern Japanese parent in their right mind would pick up and buy an OVA anime like this for their growing-up child. I saw a lot of pantsu and underage fanservice goodness, which borders on the absolute controversial. This leads me to think that this time, the anime is specifically aimed at lolicon otakus. And as some of you know, I tend to be a lolicon every now and then (or more often than not lately?). Of course I'm going to give it a positive review merely based on that. NO, I am NOT. I don't like Naisho no Tsubomi just because it completely fulfilled a LOT of my anime preferences… or should I say fetishes. This anime is a surprising and timely reminder of why I am watching anime in the first place.

Animeme: Balalaika->Yaranaika

Balalaika

Wow this song is total bait! We have a very cute Morning Musume girl innocently releasing her single which is the second OP theme of the popular shoujo idol anime Kirarin Revolution, which she stars in. Unfortunately, the internets has some mystical way to put two and two together. What results is a very effective mashup, replacing 'balalaika' with 'yaranaika' and modifying the lyrics to sound even more ghey-ish. Add 3D animation and it becomes a recipe for awesomeness… even if you hate yaoi. Don't worry, it won't bite. It's a total LOL-fest! Check out the videos below.

Very nice mashup of the song and Idolm@ster dancing. I particularly liked the side-reactions of the im@s girls throughout the video.

Renovation

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Basically, I'm trying to change my blog mechanics right now, and I'm thinking of a lot of ideas on how to present you with the maximum amount of my content in the simplest and sensible manner.

Traditionally, I am a very busy casual blogger with only a few posts each month. That's because I make feature-complete articles, if you know what I mean. Feature-complete articles may basically mean long-ars wall-of-text posts of mine, but I meant each post to be as meaningful, less information-hanging, and as conclusive as possible. Because of this, I'm not a time-based blogger, in which I feature the latest and the greatest, rather I want to promote my old posts, updating them as required. Take for example my posts about bishoujo game companies like Key. I want to update the article based on new information like Little Busters, anime Clannad and their newer upcoming game, but I don't update it because most likely, you won't see it because it's old. That is despite me sticking it in the Recent Updated Posts section of the sidebar.

I'm trying to brainstorm how you, my dear reader, would be able to see and access my old (but updated) interesting content. New readers of my blog should be able to see the content for the first time, while avid readers would be able to catch updated content of the topic in hand. While I was partly successful in some ideas by grouping it into projects, like the ToHeart2 project, for more individualized articles, I need another way to go at it. What do you think?

Eroge Recession?

Well good riddance, I've started playing the game again. I heard there's the new Da Crapo II Second Season anime, so I should pick up my slack.

On another note though, I think my likehood towards these games is slowly fading for some reason. I don't think it's because of my busy real-life schedule, and I recently got my copy of Another Days too. Is this bishoujo game/eroge/galge industry in some sort of recession? I don't find any new game particularly exciting. I don't see many posts about them in english anime blogs either. Somehow there's doesn't seem to be much energy in the game genre at all, and I would wonder why. Please read on for my random thoughts.

Kimikiss -pure rouge-

Kimikiss -pure rouge-

The problem with most bishoujo game based anime love stories is that the focus isn't on the romance and how it blooms, but mostly on fleshing out the girls themselves. Because of that, you can't really say that their romance stories are 'romantic'. In the end, they are just giving character to the character, like revealing her secrets, exposing her pasts, or giving a little character development bump for posterity. Also, I feel like a male lead of many a bishoujo love story is so generic anyone could take his place. They have no personalities, or even if they do, they are just there without any relation to the love story. This is where shoujo romance anime takes the lead, because character development is in equal footing between the two sexes. In shoujo anime you can see a male character developing in relation to the love story with the female partner, and it makes for more interesting viewing for me than some generic harem where all you care about are the girls. So when I saw Kimikiss -pure rouge-, I was getting mighty impressed. I feel like it's a perfect mixture of not only the best bishoujo/harem anime had to offer, but also the best that shoujo anime has in store. While in the end it wasn't that 'perfect', I think Kimikiss would have earned its proper rank in my list of the best romance animes ever made.
