I guess she took those seriously, in that she never had the courage to say how she really feels, and who she really is. She can't see her future anymore trying to mold out of her family constraints, so she goes back to her usual self. But then, Takaki wants to take her back, and it doesn't matter who she really is. Takaki started banging the glass wall, and then it finally broke.
